Finished, primed, packed and ready to go off to the convention! A friend of mine is a huge Johnny Depp fan and she’s commissioned me to try out his face with acrylics, so here’s the result.
I’m really stoked to keep working more with traditional painting. It’s way more tactile, it feels more natural and responsive. Finding the time has been hard before, but I’m determined to start pushing my brushwork.
Oh, and the reference was a pita to work from so I inevitably ended up making up about 60% of the skintones, which was actually really fun.

Hey do any other artist friends use Pinterest to organize their references?
I found it to be way easier and more accessible than keeping tags on reference tumblrs, dumping inspo stuff under one blog, or even saving images on your drive (never to be seen again)
With a Chrome extension, you can basically right-click and pin an image from anywhere — your dashboard, Facebook, google search, forums…
A have a few boards dedicated to character costuming, composition, environments and the like. The only cumbersome part about it is finding the sources of images if you want more of the same, but again: Chrome’s right-click-search-image function makes that even easier.
